FILTER SERVICES HELPS HOSPITALS RETROFIT FOR COVID-19

On a Tuesday afternoon in March, Jeffrey Gradek, President of Filter Services, Inc, was asked about retrofitting the air filtration system in a wing of one of the largest hospital systems in the nation. Could it be done by Friday?

The hospital needed a dedicated, safe area to receive an expected influx of COVID-19 patients. Unfortunately, an air system upgrade from MERV-15 to HEPA filters required the removal of the hospital’s existing filtration framework. Also, the facility was in a neighboring state.

Gradek was confident it could be done – if the logistics worked out. Filters were shipped from the company’s facility in Elk Grove Village, IL, the frames were shipped from Arkansas, and a frame installer was identified. Thanks to highly expedited shipping, everything and everyone needed was on-site Friday morning; the crew worked all day and the job was complete by the evening.

“The energy level around Filter Services has been very high,” said Gradek. “We’re really developing products and services that are needed – we have been able to innovate and help out.”

Filter Services has since done four additional HEPA filter conversions on hospitals and medical buildings. As new guidelines for air quality have been published, Filter Services has also helped clients upgrade their filtration systems in preparing their facilities for a return to the workplace.

Another client pain point has been the supply chain: finding high-quality, fairly-priced personal protective equipment (PPE) from trusted vendors. Filter Services began networking with its suppliers, and is now offering a variety of PPEs, including face masks and hand sanitizer. In seven business days, Filter Services sold 40,000 KN95 masks – a demonstration of the vast need. As companies adjust to a new normal around the workplace, Filter Services is helping companies safely reopen their workplaces.
